BREAKING: Hokies set to host NC State Icepack in season opener

Announced Sunday by the team, the Virginia Tech Hokies Men's Ice Hockey team will kick off their 2024-25 season this Friday, September 13, against ACCHL rival North Carolina State at home.

The news comes after the Hokies were originally scheduled to play their season opener the day after at James Madison, though plans quickly changed and the team gets to play a day earlier against a familiar foe.

Initially, Virginia Tech and NC State were to go head-to-head twice this season, the second to last weekend in January as has for the past few seasons. However, with the addition of the September 13 game, the two teams will see each other sooner than they are accustomed to.

Last season, the Hokies and Icepack squared off three times, twice in the regular season and once in the opening round of the ACCHL playoffs. The two teams split the regular season series, with the home team winning each by a score of 3-2, though the Icepack would come out victorious in the playoffs, defeating Tech 4-2.

The Hokies will look to avenge their heartbreaking loss against their rivals on Friday night. Puck drop is set for 7:30 pm at the Lancerlot Sports Complex. You can watch the game live on the Virginia Tech Hockey Network on YouTube starting at 7:00 pm.
