It has been a long five months since the Virginia Tech Men's Ice Hockey Team last took the ice, coming off a historic season that ended abruptly after a brutal double overtime loss to the University of Ohio in the first round of the ACHA Southeast Regionals. However, as the famous saying goes, the past is in the past, and a new dawn sets over the town of Blacksburg, Virginia, for a new season of Hokies hockey.
On Monday, the team posted its 2025-26 season schedule, which was highlighted by many intriguing matchups that included the reintroduction of fierce rivals, new divisional opponents, and another outdoor game in Charlotte.
The season kicks off the weekend of September 12-13, as the Hokies host Liberty at home before heading to Lynchburg to conclude a home-and-home. This will be the first time since 2015-16 that Tech and the Flames will square off. From there, the team has four consecutive home games against Tennessee, NC State, and North Carolina (2), before going on the road to play new division foe West Virginia.
After another home-and-home with Liberty, the Hokies set course for a long road stand as they face divisional opponents UNCW and Maryland before arriving at the ACCHL Showcase in mid-November. The month concludes as right before Thanksgiving, the Hokies head back outdoors in Charlotte at Truist Field to take on the University of Georgia. This game will mark the second time in program history that Tech plays outside (prev. beat UNC 6-0 last January).
The final third of the season begins with a four-game homestand that spans before and after winter break, as the Hokies will host Rider in December and then newly promoted division foe High Point in January. The weekend after sees a rematch, and an opportunity for revenge after last year's regional, as Tech will travel to Athens, Ohio, to take on the Bobcats in a highly anticipated showdown, which could have heavy playoff implications. The season concludes with a home weekend series against Wake Forest before welcoming Towson (D1) to The Lot for senior night.
As always, the ACCHL Tournament in Winston-Salem will follow in February with trips to regionals and perhaps nationals on the horizon in March.
VTHN will release its full broadcast schedule for the 2025-26 season at a later date. The Hokies will face off against the Liberty Flames on September 12, 2025, at the Lancerlot Sports Complex for Opening Night.
