After a week off from competition, Virginia Tech (13-1-1) returns to the ice in a home-and-home series bout against Wake Forest (8-6). This weekend’s matchup will mark the Hokies first games against the Demon Deacons in over a year.
The Hokies are coming off a 13-game winning streak, which was snapped last Sunday in an overtime loss to Penn State at the ACCHL Fall Showcase. Virginia Tech contained a 3-2 lead in the final moments of the third period before conceding the game-tying and eventually game-winning goal to the Ice Lions to conclude their weekend. Wake Forest on the other hand swept the Fall Showcase with wins over Denison, Virginia, and Delaware. Two of those victories were earned in extra time.
Wake Forest comes into Friday winners of their last six games. The team has outscored their opponents 32-14 in that span, averaging just over five goals a game. The Deacs previously defeated UNC-Charlotte last Saturday 4-2.
These two teams have a history against one another. Last season, the Demon Deacons defeated the Hokies 5-4 thanks to four goals on the man advantage. Virginia Tech has not defeated Wake Forest since January 13, 2023, in Winston-Salem with a 7-5 win. In the series matchup, Tech has the advantage with four wins, while Wake Forest has three wins.
Friday's matchup will be the first game of a home-and-home weekend series between the two teams. The Hokies will host at the Lancerlot Sports Complex starting at 7:30 pm. Saturday will conclude the matchup with an afternoon clash at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Arena, home of the ACCHL Playoffs, starting at 1:00 pm.
Fans looking to watch the games can tune into the Virginia Tech Hockey Network on Friday starting at 7:00 pm. Saturday's game will be cast on LiveBarnTV.
